Over 30 years ago, Russell Thompson began selling furniture on the side of the road. What started as hustle and hands-on craftsmanship has grown into one of South Africa’s most respected outdoor furniture manufacturers.
Today, Providence operates from a dedicated [Y m²] manufacturing facility in Sandton, employing a skilled team of [XXX] artisans, craftsmen and specialists. Every piece is designed and built locally - engineered for longevity, refined for luxury, and made to endure the African climate.
Our furniture is specified by leading designers and architects and installed in some of the most exclusive homes, estates and safari lodges across Africa. We do not mass produce. We manufacture with intent.
From concept to completion, Providence remains proudly South African, proudly independent and relentlessly focused on quality.
Meet the Founder - Russell Thompson
Russell Thompson is not a businessman who entered furniture. He is a craftsman who built a business.
More than three decades ago, Russell began by making and selling furniture himself - learning what lasts, what fails, and what clients truly value. That early hands-on experience still shapes Providence today.
His philosophy is simple - build it properly, or do not build it at all.
Under Russell’s leadership, Providence has grown from roadside beginnings into a trusted manufacturing partner for South Africa’s most discerning designers and property owners. Yet the core remains unchanged - attention to detail, pride in workmanship, and furniture made to stand the test of time.
